The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that 747 people were forced to evacuate to safer locations following floods that submerged residential areas in Manado City, North Sulawesi. Abdul Muhari, Chief of the BNPB’s Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Centre, stated in Jakarta on Saturday that a total of 314 households, or 968 people, were affected by the floods caused by overflowing drainage channels unable to cope with heavy rainfall. ‘Of these, 215 households, or 747 people, were forced to relocate to safer areas,’ he said. Abdul explained that the overflowing water inundated at least 468 homes, with varying water levels across several locations. The affected residential clusters include Pakowa Village in Wanea District, Paal IV Village in Tikala District, Dendengan Dalam Village in Paal Dua District, and Komo and Ternate Tanjung Villages in Wenang District. However, as of Friday evening (29 May), Abdul noted that floodwaters had begun to recede in several areas, with residents gradually returning home to clean up residual mud. The BNPB confirmed that logistics and emergency shelter arrangements for evacuees are being handled by on-ground joint teams to ensure basic needs are met.
