BNPB: 30,000 Litres of Clean Water Distributed to Tackle Drought in Demak

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that 30,000 litres of clean water have been distributed to address the water crisis caused by the dry season in Demak Regency, Central Java. Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB’s Data, Information, and Communication Centre for Disasters, stated in Jakarta on Thursday that the aid was dispatched after the drought began affecting the area on Wednesday (22/7). “The decline in the availability of clean water sources has begun to be felt by residents in the Central Java region, including in Demak Regency, which now requires emergency supplies,” he said. Abdul Muhari explained that the shortage of clean water has directly impacted at least 500 families, or approximately 1,700 people, residing in Kalitengah Village, Mranggen District. In response to this situation, the Demak Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) immediately deployed a fleet of tankers to distribute water directly to the community. In addition to direct delivery to residential areas, officers also filled public water storage tanks that had been prepared at the affected locations. “The total clean water distributed reached 30,000 litres, equivalent to six tanker trucks,” said Abdul Muhari.
