BNPB: 109 People Affected by Earthquake in Central Sulawesi, 32 Injured

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that at least 109 people, or 45 families, have been affected by the magnitude 6.7 earthquake that hit Central Sulawesi on Tuesday. Additionally, 24 residents suffered minor injuries and eight sustained serious injuries. All data is still being verified and updated by field officers, according to Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Centre, in Jakarta on Tuesday. Based on parameters from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake was centred on land at coordinates 1.03 degrees South Latitude and 120.24 degrees East Longitude, with a depth of 10 kilometres. The epicentre was located approximately 42 kilometres southeast of Palu City, 54 kilometres northeast of Sigi Regency, 70 kilometres northwest of Poso Regency, and 81 kilometres southeast of Donggala Regency. Reports from Sigi Regency indicate that 40 people, or 21 families, were affected. In Palu City, two residents suffered minor injuries, while in Poso Regency one resident was injured and further data collection is ongoing. The areas impacted by the earthquake include Palu City, Donggala Regency, Sigi Regency, Parigi Moutong Regency, and Poso Regency. Preliminary data recorded at least 64 damaged houses, including four with minor damage in Poso Regency. In Sigi Regency, five houses were affected, three houses suffered minor damage, and one provincial road segment was damaged. In Parigi Moutong Regency, 15 houses were affected. In Palu City, damage occurred to Bridge III, which developed cracks, one business premises was affected, and one hotel building sustained damage. BMKG recorded 55 aftershock activities around the main earthquake location up to 2 p.m. Western Indonesian Time.
