Jakarta — A total of 1,771 temporary shelters for residents affected by hydrometeorological disasters in Aceh Tamiang District, Aceh has been successfully constructed, according to a report from the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) released Monday evening.

Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB’s Centre for Disaster Data, Information and Communication, stated in Jakarta that the construction of these temporary shelters forms part of the government’s coordinated effort across multiple ministries and agencies to provide temporary accommodation for affected communities.

“The temporary shelters are distributed across 25 prepared locations for disaster survivors. Of the total shelters constructed, 1,339 families have now occupied the more appropriate housing,” Abdul said.

Shelter furnishings are being provided by the BNPB in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and several humanitarian organisations involved in post-disaster response efforts.

The government is also providing free access to clean water and electricity for residents occupying the temporary shelters.

The BNPB stated that the provision of these facilities aims to alleviate the burden on the community whilst ensuring disaster survivors can lead more dignified lives during the post-disaster recovery period.
