BNPB: 1,160 Sangihe Islands Residents Affected by Earthquake, Still Displaced

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has recorded that the number of residents affected by the earthquake in Sangihe Regency, North Sulawesi, totals 1,160 people. According to the Head of the BNPB Data, Information, and Communication Centre, Abdul Muhari, the Sangihe Islands Regency is an area that has been quite significantly impacted. “A total of 1,160 residents previously reported as displaced to nearby family homes have partly returned to their respective homes,” Muhari said in his statement on Wednesday (10/6). Based on BNPB data, following the magnitude 7.7 earthquake, aftershocks were still occurring as of Tuesday (9/6) around 09.00 WIB. “Small aftershocks are still occurring in the affected area,” he said. Meanwhile, the electricity supply in Sangihe Regency after the disaster has gradually returned to normal, except on the outer islands located near the earthquake’s epicentre. “Building damage recorded in the Sangihe Islands Regency includes 54 severely damaged houses, 21 moderately damaged houses, and eight lightly damaged houses. Additionally, two churches, one school, and one teacher’s official residence also sustained damage,” he revealed. Meanwhile, in Talaud Regency, 12 houses, one hospital, and one port warehouse were recorded as being affected by the earthquake. “In this area, 12 families were affected,” he mentioned. Furthermore, in North Minahasa Regency, Muhari stated that one GMIM 76 church building and one educational facility were damaged by the earthquake.
