BNN: War on drugs must begin before victims fall
Bogor Regency, West Java (ANTARA) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia has affirmed that the war against narcotics must not only begin once individuals have already become victims.
BNN RI Chief Commissioner of Police Suyudi Ario Seto stated that this war must start well in advance, namely within the family, at school, in the environment where children grow up, and in the ability to say no to drugs.
“That is why BNN RI has initiated the Ananda Bersinar programme, or the National Anti-Narcotics Action starting from Children Free of Drugs,” said Suyudi at the commemoration of the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse in Bogor Regency, West Java, on Thursday.
He explained that the programme represents a transformation of BNN’s prevention strategy, placing children as the primary subjects of protection by building character, self-resilience, life skills and literacy on the dangers of narcotics, whilst strengthening the roles of the family, school and social environment.
BNN designed the Ananda Bersinar programme to run in line with the major human resource development agenda led by President Prabowo Subianto.
This is because, he said, a child who is physically healthy, well-nourished and receives a good education but lacks resilience against narcotics remains at risk of losing their future.
To strengthen the narcotics prevention ecosystem, BNN together with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has pushed for the Integration of the Anti-Drug Curriculum (IKAN) into the learning process through existing subjects.
In addition, Suyudi said his office has also initiated the strengthening of the scouting movement through the Anti-Narcotics Scout Work Unit (Saka Antinarkotika), expanded community-based education and provided the BNN Call Center 184 service, which operates 24 hours a day as a channel for public information and complaints.
“This step is taken whilst maintaining the confidentiality of the reporter’s identity, of course, in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations,” he said.
