Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the National Narcotics Board (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia, Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, has invited university students to become agents of change in facing the threats of narcotics abuse and illicit trafficking.

“The threat of narcotics continues to evolve, targeting the younger generation with various new modes of operation,” said Commissioner General Suyudi in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday.

Based on a national survey conducted by the BNN in collaboration with the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) for the 2023–2025 period, the prevalence of narcotics abuse has reached 2.11 per cent, equivalent to 4.15 million people of productive age. The 15–24 age group represents the highest prevalence at 2.53 per cent.

Suyudi noted that the evolution of these methods is partly visible through the abuse of vapes. As of 12 August 2026, the BNN Laboratory Centre has examined 1,745 vape liquid samples and found that 1,716 samples tested positive for narcotics or New Psychoactive Substances (NPS). Approximately 1,552 samples, or 88.9 per cent, were detected to contain etomidate.

The Head of the BNN emphasised the importance of establishing campuses as safe, healthy, productive, and high-integrity ecosystems. He stated that a drug-free campus is achieved not only through regulations but through a culture of mutual protection, the courage to refuse narcotics, care for peers, and the availability of education and assistance services.

He added that the values of ‘Tri Krama Trisakti’—which encompass piety, diligence, and skill; nurturing, loving, and caring; and bravery, loyalty, and sportsmanship—can serve as a foundation for students to build integrity and reject narcotics.

According to Suyudi, the ‘Indonesia Emas 2045’ (Golden Indonesia 2045) vision can only be realised with a generation that is healthy, innovative, productive, high-integrity, and free from narcotics. “Therefore, collaboration between the government, universities, families, society, and the younger generation is key to strengthening national resilience against the threat of narcotics,” he said.

As a form of this collaboration, the BNN served as a keynote speaker during a public lecture as part of the New Student Campus Life Introduction (PKKMB) at Trisakti University for the year 2026 in Jakarta on Wednesday (26/8).

During the event, the Head of the BNN introduced the ‘Ananda Bersinar’ programme, which stands for National Anti-Narcotics Action Starting with Children Clean from Narcotics. The programme is supported by five pillars: prevention, recovery or rehabilitation, empowerment, resilience, and collaboration.

Suyudi also left three messages for the new Trisakti students: protect yourself, protect your friends, and protect your campus. This aligns with the theme of the 2026 Trisakti University PKKMB: Continuous Innovation, Boundless Exploration, Rooted in Tri Krama Trisakti.

Students are also encouraged to become agents of change, social controls, and future leaders by building a healthy campus culture and resisting digital narratives that normalise substance abuse.
