BNN Seizes 12.3 Tonnes of Narcotics, Saving 48.3 Million Lives

The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Indonesia has seized more than 12.3 tonnes of narcotics evidence between October 2024 and July 2026, successfully saving 48.3 million lives. BNN RI Chief Commissioner General of Police Suyudi Ario Seto stated that the figure is not merely a statistic. “Behind every kilogramme of narcotics prevented from circulating, there is a family that can be saved. There is a community living space that we have managed to protect,” he said during the International Anti-Narcotics Day 2026 commemoration in Bogor, West Java, on Thursday. From the seizures, he revealed that an economic turnover worth Rp16.5 trillion was halted and Rp165 billion in assets from money laundering crimes were secured. Through the operations, BNN arrested 1,259 suspects, seizing 126.3 kilogrammes of methamphetamine, 12.7 kilogrammes of cannabis, 1,428 ecstasy pills, cash amounting to Rp1.5 billion and precious metals, 64 sharp weapons, and 19 firearms. Furthermore, he added that an international fugitive named Dewi Astutik, who had smuggled two tonnes of methamphetamine, was arrested in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. “This success shows that national borders must not serve as protection for narcotics criminals,” he stated. He also mentioned the dismantling of a clandestine narcotics laboratory in Gianyar, Bali, which involved a Russian national. “Another strategic operation was carried out by BNN together with the National Police and Customs and Excise in Gresik, East Java,” he said. Through this action, the BNN chief stated that they uncovered the smuggling of approximately 3.37 tonnes of dried cannabis buds. Based on BNN estimates, the disclosure prevented potential abuse by more than 22.74 million members of the nation’s younger generation while averting potential economic losses of up to Rp65.12 billion. “This means we are not just foiling narcotics smuggling, but we are saving human beings, saving families, protecting the younger generation, and safeguarding Indonesia’s future,” Suyudi said.
