JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A viral satirical song titled ‘Siti Mawarni’ on social media has drawn the attention of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN). The agency says it responded to the phenomenon by carrying out a narcotics eradication operation in Labuhanbatu Utara on 13 May 2026. Acting Deputy for Eradication Roy Hardi Siahaan said the operation was connected to public unease that arose after the song was widely discussed. ‘This Saber operation correlates with the phenomenon surrounding the Siti Mawarni song from Labuhanbatu. We at BNN RI carried out the operation on 13 May 2026,’ Roy told reporters at the BNN office in Cawang, on Tuesday (19/5/2026). The song previously went viral due to lyrics that touched on the widespread narcotics distribution in North Sumatra. One excerpt reads: ‘Siti-siti Mawarni ya incek anak Labuhanbatu, kalau ada orang nyabu ya Allah cepat kasih azabnya, sabu banyak di Sumut ya Allah, bandar sabu kaya semua.’ From the operation, BNN named one suspect. However, one person who had previously been detained was declared not connected to the case after processing. ‘We managed to name one suspect although we also managed to bring one perpetrator who we later identified as having no connection,’ Roy said. ‘But from that perpetrator we identified another individual with the initials WW who is correlated with the underlying crime and money laundering offences.’ Roy noted WW has now been placed on the wanted list (DPO) in narcotics cases as well as TPPU (pencucian uang). According to Roy, investigations show a pattern of role distribution within the network, from controllers to stall keepers. ‘Officers also seized a ready-for-sale packet of meth weighing 0.90 grams. Investigations show a system of role-sharing among those controlling and those guarding the storefront in the drug distribution in the area,’ he added. ‘The disclosure of this case is one form of BNN’s rapid response to public unease, as well as a commitment to safeguarding communities from the threat of illicit drug distribution,’ Roy concluded.
