BNN Relies on Three Flagship Programmes to Prevent Drug Abuse

The National Narcotics Board (BNN) is strengthening its prevention efforts through three flagship programmes that target families, educational environments, and communities. These programmes are part of the BNN’s strategy to build resilience so that society can withstand the threat of drug abuse.

The three programmes were highlighted at a booth during the commemoration of International Anti-Drug Day at the BNN Rehabilitation Centre in Lido, Bogor. Eva, a counsellor from the BNN’s Deputy of Prevention, explained that the agency works to build community resilience across various settings, from families and schools to workplaces.

The first programme, Family Resilience, involves collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to develop a ‘Family United’ module. Indonesia serves as a pilot country for this initiative within the ASEAN region. The second programme focuses on creating Drug-Free Schools and Campuses by integrating anti-drug education into the curriculum. The BNN is pushing for all educational units to incorporate prevention education through intracurricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities.

The third programme, Drug-Free Villages/Sub-districts (Desa/Kelurahan Bersinar), encourages commitment from local government leaders and community participation. The BNN ensures that educational materials are age-appropriate, using tools like educational comics for younger children to avoid misconceptions.

Through these three programmes, the BNN hopes that drug abuse prevention becomes a shared responsibility involving families, educational institutions, regional governments, and the wider community as the front line in creating a drug-free environment.
