BNN: Regional Government Support Through Grants a Tangible Commitment to Eradicating Drugs

Jakarta - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia has affirmed that support from regional governments, through the provision of land and building grants, is a tangible manifestation of a shared commitment to strengthening the BNN’s institutions in the fight against drugs. During an audience with the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government in Jakarta on Tuesday, BNN Chief Commissioner General of Police Suyudi Ario Seto stated that synergy between the central and regional governments is a crucial factor in enhancing the effectiveness of the Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN) programme across Indonesia. ‘This collaboration is expected to increase the effectiveness of BNN’s duties in protecting the public from the threat of drug abuse and illicit trafficking,’ he said, as quoted from a confirmed statement. The BNN Chief expressed his appreciation for the commitment shown by the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government and its district governments in providing tangible support for institutional strengthening. Central Kalimantan Provincial Secretary H. Katma F. Dirun, representing the Governor, noted that the province, along with its district governments, is committed to supporting the strengthening of BNN institutions through land and building grants. ‘Central Kalimantan has a vast and strategic territory, so it requires a strengthened BNN presence in the region,’ he said. With the establishment of BNN offices in five districts, he is optimistic that prevention, eradication, rehabilitation, and community empowerment efforts can run more optimally, making the fight against narcotics in Central Kalimantan more effective. The audience was held in the context of granting land and buildings to support the strengthening of BNN institutions in the regions. The meeting also discussed the commitment of the Central Kalimantan provincial and district governments to support the P4GN programme through these grants. The grants are expected to strengthen BNN’s facilities and infrastructure to improve services to the community and the effectiveness of its duties in the regions. The audience was attended by heads of five districts in Central Kalimantan, namely Barito Timur Regent Yamin, Gunung Mas Regent Jaya Samaya Monong, Katingan Regent Saiful, South Barito Regent Eddy Raya Samsuri, and Seruyan District Secretary Bahrun Abbas, who represented the Seruyan Regent.
