Jakarta (ANTARA) - The head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, has stated that public trust is one of the principal foundations for strengthening BNN’s performance in the Prevention and Eradication of Narcotics Abuse and Illicit Trafficking programme (P4GN).

“We are continuously striving to build public trust. This is a very important and fundamental matter for us, representing the greatest social capital for a law enforcement institution,” Suyudi said at BNN Headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday.

Suyudi said public trust can only be built through tangible work that is directly felt by the community, supported by a service system that is transparent, accountable, and responsive to public reports.

One of BNN’s efforts to build public trust is the provision of the BNN Call Centre 184, which operates around the clock to provide information and receive reports concerning suspected narcotics abuse.

He cautioned that no member of the public should be left feeling disappointed due to a failure to obtain accurate information or an adequate response.

“Not a single member of the public who contacts Call Centre 184 should feel disappointed because they cannot get accurate information or an adequate response,” Suyudi said.

He expressed hope that as public trust in BNN grows stronger, more people will feel comfortable reporting suspected narcotics abuse in their surroundings. The greater the number of reports received, the more intelligence BNN will have at its disposal to take action against narcotics abuse.

Suyudi also reminded staff that every piece of information provided by the public must be treated as a strategic asset that must be analysed and followed up to the fullest extent.

“No matter how much information there is, no matter how detailed it is, if we do not follow it up to the fullest, it ultimately becomes counterproductive,” he said.
