Jakarta — The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia has revealed that narcotics trafficking, which is increasingly expanding into liquid form, is aimed at evading detection. During a meeting with the management of the Global CEO Indonesia Foundation and the Perempuan Bersinar Community in Jakarta on Monday, 11 May, BNN RI Chief Police General Suyudi Ario Seto said that the use of electronic cigarettes or vapes is now widespread as one of the media often misused to consume illegal substances. “Prevention is a noble endeavour for the country. We must not allow our next generation to be corrupted by narcotics that are now packaged with various lifestyle trends,” Komjen Pol. Suyudi was quoted as saying in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday. Therefore, the Head of BNN RI emphasised the importance of vigilance against the new modus operandi of narcotics distribution. As a concrete step, BNN has begun integrating a narcotics danger education module into the school curriculum, as trialled in East Java through five local-content subjects. It was explained that the education is intended so that children understand the forms and dangers of modern narcotics and other addictive substances from an early age. On the same occasion, Trisya Suherman, the General Chairperson of CEO Indonesia as well as the Community for the Defence of the Nation and Perempuan Bersinar, shared personal experiences regarding the real impact of narcotics that destroy family order. She stressed that the role of women and mothers is crucial in detecting early signs of drug abuse in children. Thus, the Global CEO Indonesia Foundation is committed to continuing to support the ‘Indonesia Bersinar’ (Drug-Free Narcotics) programme through various social actions and education in the private sector as well as in communities. The cooperation is expected to help reduce the prevalence of narcotics abuse that is increasingly widespread across various layers of society, including in pesantren and secondary schools. The two parties’ meeting focused on strengthening strategies to prevent narcotics abuse, particularly for children and the nation’s next generation.
