BNN Launches 'Ananda Bersinar' Strategy Against Multidimensional Narcotics Threat
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Indonesia has revealed that the ‘Ananda Bersinar’ National Movement, or the National Anti-Narcotics Action Starting from Drug-Free Children, is a strategic step in facing the now multidimensional threat of narcotics. BNN Chief Commissioner General of Police Suyudi Ario Seto asserted that the narcotics threat has now evolved into a multidimensional national security issue. “Narcotics are not just a health problem, but also a matter of national security and resilience, which in certain contexts can become an instrument of asymmetric warfare,” Suyudi stated. He cautioned that Indonesia faces a serious threat to its demographic dividend if the younger generation fails to be protected from drug abuse. Based on a collaborative national survey by BNN, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), and Statistics Indonesia (BPS) for the 2023–2025 period, the prevalence of drug abuse in Indonesia reached 2.11 percent, or approximately 4.15 million people, with the 15 to 24 age group being the most vulnerable. This condition indicates that the younger generation remains the primary target of drug syndicate networks. Therefore, BNN introduced the Ananda Bersinar programme during a briefing for participants of the Senior Staff and Leadership School (Sespimti) concerning the Strategy for the Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN) at the Police Science College (PTIK) in Jakarta. The programme is a preventive, educational, humanistic, and collaborative approach through strengthening families, schools, campuses, villages, and community groups. “National resilience is built not only from the number of operations and perpetrators imprisoned, but also from the strength of families, the health of schools, the safety of campuses, the resilience of villages, and the presence of the state in shaping the character of the younger generation,” he said. Suyudi therefore invited the Sespimti participants, who are prospective senior leaders, to strengthen integrity, leadership, and cross-sector collaboration in facing the increasingly complex narcotics threat.
