Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN) states that the Indonesian government is implementing a balanced approach to counter the narcotics threat at the 2026 The Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme (CPDAP) National Secretariat Meeting held in Bali on Tuesday (28/4).

Head of BNN Indonesia, Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, explained that the approach involves both supply reduction and demand reduction.

“Through the War on Drugs for Humanity principle, Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to eradicating narcotics crime networks while ensuring a humane and human rights-based approach for users through rehabilitation programmes,” said Police Commissioner General Suyudi, as quoted from a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday.

In the prevention aspect, BNN continues to strengthen programmes focused on protecting children and youth through the Ananda Bersinar initiative.

He explained that the programme includes integrating anti-narcotics education into the school curriculum, strengthening family roles, life skills training, and developing peer education programmes among teenagers.

Additionally, prevention efforts are expanded through social media campaigns, online learning development for officers, and community empowerment via the Desa Bersih Narkotika (Bersinar) programme.

Suyudi also conveyed that Indonesia feels honoured to be trusted as the host of this important CPDAP meeting.

He emphasised that the forum is a strategic momentum to strengthen collective commitments in facing increasingly complex narcotics threats, including the proliferation of synthetic narcotics, the use of sea routes, and digital platforms for illegal activities.

The 2026 CPDAP National Secretariat Meeting carries the theme Enhancing Regional Cooperation for Effective and Inclusive Drug Use Response, which underscores the importance of strengthening regional cooperation in addressing increasingly complex narcotics challenges.

The event is attended by 50 delegates from CPDAP member countries from South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Asia-Pacific region, and Saudi Arabia.

The presence of the delegates is expected to strengthen international collaboration, information exchange, and the formulation of joint strategies in tackling global narcotics issues.

This year’s meeting features a different format from previous ones, focusing on panel discussions addressing narcotics demand reduction, supply reduction, and various supporting mechanisms such as international cooperation, aid contributions, financing sharing initiatives, and inter-agency collaboration.

Following the two-day series of meetings, the delegates are also scheduled to participate in a Cultural Visit on 30 April 2026 to the Tampaksiring Presidential Palace and Panglipuran Village as part of introducing Indonesian culture and local practices.

BNN hopes that this meeting will not only serve as a discussion forum but also produce concrete, innovative, and implementable recommendations to strengthen the global response to narcotics problems.
