BNN Focuses on Strengthening Rehabilitation Approach for Drug Abusers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN) is focusing on promoting the strengthening of rehabilitation approaches for drug abusers during an audience with the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Imipas) in Jakarta on Thursday (9/4).
Head of BNN, Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, explained that his visit aimed to strengthen cross-sectoral synergy and coordination in addressing the increasingly complex narcotics issues.
“This is considering that there are still drug users whose handling ends in criminal penalties, thus undergoing guidance in correctional institutions (prisons),” stated Police Commissioner General Suyudi, as quoted from a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Monday.
In addition, BNN is continuing to optimise the eradication of dark distribution networks and pushing for strengthened oversight of foreign nationals, as well as the development of intelligence systems to enhance the effectiveness of narcotics handling.
On the same occasion, Minister of Imipas Agus Andrianto stated that prison overcrowding remains a challenge faced to this day.
It was said that various steps are continuously being taken, from building new prison units to redistributing inmates to reduce density.
Furthermore, he mentioned that strengthening the integrity of officers and improving supervision are also priorities, as part of efforts to maintain a conducive and integrity-focused correctional environment.
Concluding the meeting, the Head of BNN and the Minister of Imipas reaffirmed their joint commitment to strengthening solid and synergistic collaboration in efforts to Prevent and Eradicate Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN), which encompasses prevention, enforcement, rehabilitation, and guidance aspects.
This increasingly close synergy is expected to bring integrated and sustainable steps between agencies, while supporting the realisation of an integrity-focused, adaptive, and recovery-oriented correctional system, as well as protecting society from narcotics threats.
The meeting between the Head of BNN and the Minister of Imipas serves as a strategic momentum to optimise synergy in P4GN efforts through strengthened guidance and supervision in prisons and detention centres (rutan), as well as oversight of foreign nationals within the scope of the Ministry of Imipas’s duties.
