BNN finds thousands of vape liquid samples containing narcotics
The Indonesian National Narcotics Board (BNN) has revealed that 1,716 out of 1,745 samples of e-cigarette liquid tested were detected to contain narcotics or new psychoactive substances (NPS).
BNN Head, Inspector General Pol. Suyudi Ario Seto, stated in a briefing confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday, that these findings represent a crucial issue that requires urgent attention in the efforts to eradicate narcotics.
This data was presented by Suyudi during an audience with the Head of the Government Communications Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (Bakom RI), Muhammad Qodari, at the BNN Building in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Based on testing results from the BNN Narcotics Laboratory Centre up to 12 August 2026, 1,716 of the 1,745 e-cigarette liquid samples were detected to contain narcotics or new psychoactive substances (NPS). Of the total samples examined, 1,552 samples, or 88.9 per cent, were found to contain etomidate.
During the meeting with Bakom RI, Suyudi encouraged strengthening cooperation between the two agencies to disseminate anti-drug messages to the public. “We hope the Government Communications Agency can synergise strongly in disseminating anti-narcotics messages while encouraging concrete collaborative steps between BNN and the Government Communications Agency,” said Suyudi.
He also reiterated the directive from President Prabowo Subianto during the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADA) commemoration, urging all elements of the state not to let the BNN work alone in facing the narcotics threat. “Strengthening cross-sectoral synergy is an important step in facing the narcotics threat,” he added.
Suyudi also outlined several BNN programmes, including the National Action Against Narcotics Starting with Drug-Free Children (ANANDA BERSINAR), the Integration of Anti-Narcotics Curriculum (IKAN), mobile rehabilitation services, online tele-rehabilitation, and the BNN 184 call centre.
Meanwhile, the Head of Bakom RI, Muhammad Qodari, expressed his commitment to bringing the narcotics issues presented by the BNN to a higher level of discussion. Qodari also intends to push for the war against narcotics to become one of the main agendas of President Prabowo Subianto.
He stated that Bakom RI will conduct internal discussions to finalise the form of cooperation with the BNN, while simultaneously following up on concrete steps that both agencies can undertake.
