BNN Detains 10 Indonesians Returning from Bangkok Who Tested Positive for Narcotics

The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has detained ten Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were identified as positive for narcotics when returning from Bangkok, Thailand via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta) in Tangerang, Banten. In a statement received in Tangerang on Wednesday, BNN RI Chief Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto said the detention of the ten WNI was carried out based on the results of the integrated Operation Sekuens ‘Sapu Bersih Narkotika’ conducted on Monday (8/6) from 17.30 to 21.30 WIB. “These ten Indonesian citizens were declared positive for containing narcotic substances and/or addictive substances based on initial urine tests, including methamphetamine, THC, amphetamine, cocaine, and other substances,” he said. He explained that the joint operation involving the BNN RI Deputy for Eradication, the Directorate General of Immigration, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, and the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police was a follow-up to a case disclosure on 3 June 2026. At that time, the joint team detained two Russian nationals with the initials KK (52) and SK (40), with evidence of 7.8 kg of hashish suspected to originate from Thailand. “Furthermore, this activity is part of the lead-up to International Anti-Narcotics Day 2026 as an effort to tighten supervision of the country’s entry points,” he said. Based on case development and intelligence, the team monitored arrivals of flights from Bangkok on Monday (8/6) evening. Around 21.00 WIB, officers identified 14 Indonesian passengers for further examination. As a result, ten people were declared positive for containing narcotic substances and/or addictive substances based on initial urine tests, while four others were negative. “The ten passengers who tested positive have the initials M.M, FR, GAS, MA, ASM, DP, HP, MI, AN, and RA,” he stated. He noted that during a baggage inspection, officers found 22 grams of powder suspected to be ketamine in a suitcase belonging to HP. Ketamine is not classified as a narcotic, but officers are still conducting further investigation and laboratory tests. “After an assessment and case proceeding, they were categorised as mild category abusers or first-time users. The measure taken is outpatient rehabilitation at the BNN RI IPWL Clinic in Cawang, accompanied by mandatory reporting,” he revealed. Furthermore, Suyudi said that on Wednesday (10/6) the drug abusers were released under the condition of following the rehabilitation programme and mandatory reporting. “Saving Indonesia’s generation from narcotics is a noble act and the responsibility of all elements of the nation,” he said.
