BNN Chief Reveals Mixed Narcotics Favoured by Russian Nationals in Bali
The Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia, Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, has revealed that a mixed narcotic favoured by Russian nationals has been uncovered in Bali. The discovery was made during a raid conducted by the agency in Gianyar.
Commissioner General Suyudi disclosed the details during the International Anti-Drug Day commemoration in Lido, Bogor, on Thursday (23/7/2026). He stated that the raid involved a Russian national.
“The raid on a clandestine lab in Gianyar, Bali, involving a Russian national, resulted in the seizure of 7.8 kilograms, or 7,894 grams, gross weight of the Category 1 narcotic mephedrone, 2.6 kilograms, or 2,600 milligrams, of solid precursors, and 219.7 kilograms, or 219,785 milligrams, of liquid precursors,” he said in his speech.
According to Suyudi, this case signals the growing complexity of the narcotics problem in Indonesia. The mixed drug consists of cocaine and ecstasy, which he noted is particularly favoured by Russian nationals.
“This case shows the increasingly complex threat of synthetic narcotics within the country. Mephedrone is a new type of narcotic. It is a mix of cocaine and MDMA, or ecstasy. It is very popular among Russians,” he explained.
The drug is therefore produced, distributed, and consumed by Russian nationals. The agency is continuing its cooperation to dismantle this international network.
“The producers and distributors are Russians, and the market is also Russian. We are continuing to work with the Russian Embassy and the Russian Police Attaché to investigate and uncover the international network we suspect is operating in Russia,” he concluded.
