BNN calls for stronger regulation of vape circulation
The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Indonesia considers it necessary to strengthen regulation of the circulation of electronic cigarettes, also known as vapes.
Head of BNN, Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, highlighted the increasing misuse of electronic cigarettes containing narcotics such as etomidate and ketamine.
“In addition, there has also been the uncovering of a clandestine laboratory threat in Bali and the seizure of 3.37 tonnes of cannabinoid buds in Gresik, which are suspected to be processed into vape liquid,” said Commissioner General Suyudi in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday.
This situation is considered a serious threat to the younger generation, so comprehensive handling measures are needed through strengthening prevention, eradication, and rehabilitation aspects.
In the field of prevention, BNN continues to develop strategic programmes such as the Gerakan Ananda Bersinar and the Anti-Narcotics Curriculum Integration (IKAN) to build children’s resilience from an early age while also producing peer-to-peer educators.
In addition, BNN affirmed its commitment to expanding rehabilitation services through Rehabilitation Centres and Compulsory Reporting Recipient Institutions (IPWL) with medical, social, and skills training approaches so that former abusers can return to being productive members of society.
On Wednesday (29/7), BNN held an audience with the Expert Staff of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) in Jakarta.
On that occasion, the KSP Expert Staff expressed appreciation for the various strategic measures taken by BNN.
As the President’s delivery unit or special team, KSP stated its commitment to overseeing the implementation of national priority programmes, encouraging the strengthening of narcotics countermeasure regulations, integrating BNN’s flagship programmes into the monitoring and evaluation system (SISMONEV), and bridging BNN’s strategic needs, including institutional strengthening and budget support.
Furthermore, the optimisation of the National Narcotics Crime Countermeasure Desk, strengthening the role of regional governments towards District/City BNN, and expanding the implementation of the Desa Bersinar programme.
Through this audience, BNN and the Presidential Staff Office agreed to strengthen coordination and collaboration to improve the effectiveness of the P4GN programme implementation as part of efforts to realise a Golden Indonesia 2045 that is free from narcotics abuse and illicit trafficking.
