BNN Arrests 10 Indonesians Testing Positive for Drugs on Arrival from Bangkok
The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has arrested a total of ten Indonesian citizens (WNI) who tested positive for drugs upon their return from Bangkok, Thailand. The arrests were carried out through a Sequential Operation dubbed ‘Clean Sweep of Narcotics’ at the International Terminal of Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Monday (8/6). BNN Chief Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto stated that this operation was the result of developing a case involving two Russian nationals with the initials KK (52) and SK (40), who were carrying 7.8 kg gross of hashish from Thailand. ‘The team monitored the arrival of flights from Bangkok on the evening of 8 June. Around 21.00 WIB, officers identified 14 Indonesian citizen passengers for further examination,’ he said in a written statement on Wednesday (10/6). Out of the 14 people examined, 10 tested positive for consuming narcotics such as methamphetamine, THC, amphetamine, and cocaine based on initial urine tests. The other four tested negative. ‘The ten passengers who tested positive had the initials M.M, FR, GAS, MA, ASM, DP, HP, MI, AN, and RA. During a baggage inspection, officers found 22 grams of powder suspected to be ketamine in HP’s suitcase,’ he said. Although ketamine is not classified as a narcotic, Suyudi stated that his agency is still conducting an in-depth investigation and lab tests on the substance. The ten arrested individuals were then taken to the BNN Office to undergo an assessment and case review. As a result, Suyudi stated that the ten people were categorised as light abusers or experimental users. Consequently, they will only be subjected to outpatient rehabilitation at the BNN RI Cawang IPWL Clinic and mandatory reporting. ‘On Wednesday, 10 June 2026 at 07.30 WIB, the abusers were released with the condition that they follow a rehabilitation programme and mandatory reporting,’ he said.
