BNN and Customs Synergy Foils Smuggling of 2.6 Tonnes of Liquid Meth in Riau
A joint team comprising the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, and the Riau Islands Police (Polda Kepri) has successfully thwarted a large-scale narcotics smuggling attempt via sea routes. During the operation, officers seized evidence in the form of liquid methamphetamine with a staggering weight of 2.6 tonnes.
The arrest was made against the vessel MV Ocean Porter as it passed through the waters of Tanjung Parit, Bengkalis, Riau, on Monday (17/8/2026) at approximately 18.00 WIB. This success marks an important milestone in narcotics law enforcement in Indonesia, given the highly significant volume of evidence secured.
The successful disclosure has drawn widespread appreciation, including from the Chairman of Milenial Muslim Bersatu (MMB), Khairul Anam. He described the achievement as a ‘beautiful gift’ for the Indonesian people who are celebrating the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence.
‘This is an achievement that deserves appreciation. Amidst the momentum of independence celebrations, the public has received a very beautiful gift in the form of the successful synergy of law enforcement officers in foiling the circulation of narcotics in very large quantities,’ said Anam in Jakarta on Wednesday (19/8/2026).
Anam, who is also active in Gerakan Nurani Nusantara (GANN) under the leadership of M. Fariza Y. Irawady, assessed that this firm action is clear evidence of the state’s presence in protecting the younger generation. He also praised the commitment of President Prabowo Subianto, who continues to push for the strengthening of narcotics crime eradication.
Furthermore, Anam emphasised the importance of strengthening coordination on sea routes, which often serve as entry points for international networks. He expressed hope that officers would not stop merely at seizing evidence, but would continue to pursue the intellectual actors behind the smuggling.
‘Do not stop at the evidence. Uncover the network to its roots. We want Indonesia to be truly free from the threat of narcotics,’ he asserted.
Concluding his statement, Khairul Anam invited all elements of society to play an active role in drug prevention in their respective environments, because the war against narcotics requires collective collaboration for the sake of a healthy and productive future for the nation.
