BNN and Customs Foil Smuggling of 3.37 Tonnes of Narcotics, Sahroni Urges Pursuit of Kingpins

The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) together with the Directorate General of Customs and Excise have uncovered a smuggling method involving 3.37 tonnes of cannabinoid flower buds from Thailand, which were secured in a warehouse in the Prambanan Bizland Warehouse complex, Cerme District, Gresik Regency, East Java. BNN Chief Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto stated that the 3.37 tonnes of marijuana flower buds entered Indonesia through official import channels with seemingly valid customs documents. This revelation drew appreciation from Deputy Chairman of House Commission III, Ahmad Sahroni. The NasDem Party politician assessed that the cooperation between the BNN and Customs is key to eradicating drugs within the country. “Appreciation to the BNN and Customs, continue this good work and do not let your guard down. The stronger the cooperation between law enforcement, the greater our chances of foiling narcotics smuggling in any form. The most important thing is that all parties remain solid in eradicating the circulation of narcotics in Indonesia, because these networks continue to seek increasingly sophisticated ways to bring illicit goods into our country,” Sahroni said in a written statement on Friday, 3 July 2026. Nevertheless, Sahroni urged the BNN to remain focused on eradicating these drug dealers and traffickers. He wants the chain of drug distribution to be completely severed. “The BNN must also remain focused on cutting the narcotics supply chain by increasing large-scale operations targeting the main kingpins. If we only intercept the goods once they have entered Indonesia, this problem will never be resolved,” he said. Therefore, he encouraged the BNN to strengthen international cooperation, including with Interpol and law enforcement agencies in other countries, to pursue the kingpins supplying narcotics to Indonesia. “Prove that Indonesia is not an easy market for international narcotics networks to enter,” said Sahroni.
