After 14 years of marriage, Terry Alfrits Wagiu has finally realised his dream of owning his first home. The journalist from Tomohon secured his residence at Grazia Residence 2 through the subsidised Mortgage Loan (KPR) facility provided by PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, known as BNI.

Terry was one of the beneficiaries of the Mass Contract Signing and Key Handover ceremony for 62,710 housing units, organised simultaneously by the government on Thursday (30/7). His story caught the attention of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabermowo Subianto, during a video conference connecting the main event location in Batang, Central Java, with Tomohon.

During the dialogue, the President enquired about the condition of the house Terry currently occupies, ranging from the building quality to the supporting facilities in the residential area. “It is very good, Sir, very good. The water flows smoothly, the building is strong, and the security is good; it is well-lit at night, Sir,” Terry replied when answering the President’s questions.

Terry also took the opportunity to express his gratitude for finally being able to have his own home after waiting for more than a decade. “I also want to say thank you very much, Sir. Because of your programme, I can have a house. I have been married for 14 years, and I have only just obtained this house,” he stated.

Separately, BNI’s Director of Commercial Banking, Muhammad Iqbal, stated that Terry’s experience demonstrates the impact of housing finance access on people’s lives. For many families, a house is not merely an asset but also provides a sense of security, certainty, and a foundation for planning the future.

“Terry’s story is a real illustration of how access to housing finance can provide direct benefits for improving community welfare,” Iqbal said in a written statement. He added that as one of the banks distributing subsidised mortgages, BNI continues to support the ‘Three Million Houses Programme’ by providing financing for low-income communities.

Iqbal further noted that BNI’s involvement in the mass contract signing and key handover is part of the synergy between the government, the banking sector, developers, and other stakeholders to expand access to home ownership. The event was also attended by the Minister of Housing and Residential Areas, Maruarar Sirait, and the Commissioner of BP Tapera, Heru Pudyo Nugroho, among other officials and beneficiaries.
