BNI Strengthens Customer Awareness of BNIdirect Digital Security
PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI, is reminding customers to increase their vigilance against potential cybercrimes as digital transaction activities rise, particularly in the use of BNIdirect services. BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo stated that protecting personal data is a crucial aspect in safeguarding the security of digital banking transactions. Data breaches not only risk the confidentiality of information but can also cause financial losses and damage to customers’ reputations. “Protecting personal data is the primary foundation in ensuring that every transaction runs safely and comfortably. By maintaining data security, customers can minimise various cybercrime risks, such as hacking, malware, and phishing,” Okki said in a written statement. He added that customers need to understand the types of data that must be kept confidential when using BNIdirect services, whether for cash transactions or business. This information includes account data, Company ID (CID), user ID, password, token code, as well as registered email addresses and phone numbers. According to Okki, transaction data is also a primary target for cybercriminals who often exploit phishing and social engineering tactics to gain illegal access to customers’ accounts. Therefore, BNI urges customers never to share sensitive data with anyone. The company emphasises that BNI never requests information such as passwords, PINs, or OTP codes through any medium. Additionally, customers are advised to always access services through the official BNIdirect channels and avoid suspicious links that could lead to fake websites. Using strong and unique passwords for each access, along with regular updates, is also an important step in maintaining account security. Customers are also reminded to ensure the use of secure internet networks by avoiding public WiFi during transactions, as well as increasing awareness of suspicious messages via email, SMS, or WhatsApp that request personal data. With the increasing cybercrime threats, BNI stresses that data security is a shared responsibility between the bank and customers. Through the implementation of these preventive measures, customers are expected to maintain transaction security while minimising risks in the digital world. BNI also affirms that awareness and discipline in protecting personal data are the primary keys to creating a safe, comfortable, and trustworthy digital transaction ecosystem for all customers.
