BNI profit soar to Rp2.5t

JAKARTA: State-owned PT Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) Monday
said its unaudited net profit rose to Rp 2.56 trillion (US$284
million) in 2002 from Rp 1.75 trillion a year earlier.

The bank said net interest income rose to Rp 4.28 trillion in
2002 from Rp 2.77 trillion a year earlier. It didn't comment on
its performance.

Elsewhere, BNI Director Binsar Pangaribuan also told
Parliament the bank expects its net profit to increase to Rp 2.8
trillion this year.

The bank plans to provide Rp 10 trillion in new loans this
