BNI President Director Putrama Wahju Setyawan said the result was the company’s highest ever for the first nine months of a year, supported by growth in lending and income.
“Despite challenging market dynamics, BNI has maintained its growth momentum by prioritising prudence and discipline in risk management,” Putrama said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The bank’s net profit rose 6.6 per cent to Rp16.1 trillion. Net interest income increased 13.6 per cent to Rp33.2 trillion, while fee-based income climbed 8.3 per cent to Rp13.9 trillion.
Loans grew 22.2 per cent to Rp992.5 trillion in September 2026, exceeding national banking-sector loan growth of 13.26 per cent, according to Bank Indonesia (BI).
BNI Finance and Strategy Director Hussein Paolo Kartadjoemena said lending expansion was carried out selectively through assessments of borrowers’ creditworthiness. BNI’s loan market share rose by 113 basis points to 10.6 per cent.
“Selective loan growth and strengthening low-cost funding are important to maintaining a balance between business expansion and profitability,” Paolo said.
Low-cost current account and savings account (CASA) funding increased 19.6 per cent to Rp733.7 trillion, supported by growth of 25.9 per cent in current accounts and 11.6 per cent in savings accounts.
Despite the expansion, net interest margin (NIM) fell by 30 basis points to 3.5 per cent. The cost of funds, however, declined from 2.83 per cent to 2.77 per cent.
BNI Risk Management Director David Pirzada said the gross non-performing loan (NPL) ratio fell from 2.0 per cent to 1.9 per cent, while the loan-at-risk (LaR) ratio improved from 10.4 per cent to 7.8 per cent.
The total allowance-to-loan ratio stood at 3.8 per cent, with a non-performing loan coverage ratio of 193.3 per cent and a capital adequacy ratio (CAR) of 19.2 per cent.
“Risk management is applied from the selection of priority sectors and assessment of borrower creditworthiness through to post-disbursement monitoring, supported by an early-warning system that is continually being strengthened,” David said.
In digital banking, wondr by BNI users reached 16.6 million, up 58 per cent year on year, with transactions worth Rp1,774 trillion. Meanwhile, transaction value on BNIdirect reached Rp9,324 trillion, a 16 per cent increase.

As it enters the fourth quarter of 2026, BNI said it would continue strengthening funding, lending selectively, managing risk and advancing its digital transformation to support financing for productive sectors.
