Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI, through the BNI Agen46 Waste Bank programme, assists the public in managing inorganic waste into savings via a digital banking system. The initiative is designed to provide concrete solutions to waste problems while opening access to formal financial services for the community.

Through this scheme, the public is encouraged to sort and deposit economically valuable inorganic waste such as plastic bottles, cardboard, metals, and used cooking oil. The weighed waste is then converted into savings balances in the customer’s BNI account.

The conversion process is carried out in real-time through the BNI Agen46 system using an Electronic Data Capture (EDC) machine. Once recorded as savings balances, the collected waste will be purchased by collector partners for subsequent recycling and reprocessing.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo stated that the programme not only helps reduce waste ending up in landfills (TPA) but also creates new economic value for local communities.

“Moreover, the presence of Agen46 Waste Banks expands BNI’s financial service reach, particularly for communities that previously lacked access to formal banking,” he said, quoted on Monday (20/4/2026).

“With BNI Agen46 Waste Bank, waste can become savings, and the environment becomes cleaner and more comfortable. This programme represents BNI’s commitment to supporting sustainability as well as community economic empowerment,” Okki added.

He emphasised that through the integration of circular economy and digital financial services, BNI hopes the public will be further encouraged to manage waste responsibly while improving welfare through more inclusive and sustainable financial access.
