BNI Confirms Jember KUR Case Originated from Its Own Report
PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI) has confirmed that the legal process regarding alleged irregularities in the distribution of Kredit Usaha Rakyat (KUR) in the Jember area, East Java, is a follow-up to a report filed by the bank itself. The report was submitted to law enforcement officials in 2024 after the company discovered indications of misconduct in the credit application and disbursement process. This step is a proactive effort by BNI to maintain credit distribution governance and apply the principle of prudence. Corporate Secretary of BNI, Okki Rushartomo, stated that the bank respects the ongoing legal process and is committed to supporting the handling of the case cooperatively in accordance with applicable regulations. ‘This case originated from a report by BNI to law enforcement after the company found indications of irregularities in the credit application and disbursement process. BNI respects the ongoing legal process and is being cooperative in the investigation,’ Okki said. He explained that the reporting action is part of BNI’s commitment to maintaining credit distribution governance and the principle of prudence. BNI ensures that any indication of a violation is followed up through internal mechanisms and the applicable legal channels. In this case, the alleged irregularities relate to the KUR distribution process in the Jember region. BNI has conducted an internal examination and taken action against parties proven to have violated company regulations. ‘BNI applies a zero-tolerance principle towards any form of fraud and violation. If any internal or external parties are proven to have committed violations, BNI ensures the matter is followed up in accordance with legal provisions and internal company regulations,’ Okki stated. He added that the actions of individuals proven to have violated regulations do not represent the company’s policies or practices. BNI emphasised that credit distribution is carried out with reference to the principle of prudence, good governance, and applicable regulations. The company also continues to coordinate with law enforcement regarding the progress of the case, ensuring support for the legal process while respecting the presumption of innocence and statutory provisions.
