BNI completes refund of CU Paroki Aek Nabara funds, totalling Rp28.26 billion
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI has completed the refund of funds to customers of the Credit Union (CU) Paroki Aek Nabara in North Sumatra, with a total value of Rp28,257,360,600 (Rp28.26 billion).
BNI’s Director of Human Capital & Compliance, Munadi Herlambang, stated that BNI has transferred Rp21,257,360,600 to CU Paroki Aek Nabara, thereby completing the previous refund of Rp7 billion.
“Thus, the total funds refunded amount to Rp28,257,360,600, so the refund process has been completed,” Munadi said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
BNI, Munadi said, extends apologies to the public, particularly the Catholic community and all members of CU Paroki Aek Nabara, for the anxiety and impact caused by this incident.
“We understand the concerns and impacts felt by those affected by this incident. With the completion of this refund, we hope that public trust can be maintained, while serving as a collective lesson for all parties,” Munadi stated.
The company also expressed thanks for the patience and cooperation from all parties during this process.
Furthermore, Munadi added, the company views this process as a joint effort to resolve the issue properly.
“Our focus is to ensure the resolution runs smoothly and provides certainty for all parties,” he said.
According to the company, this resolution was realised faster than the initial plan, which had targeted completion on Friday (24/4) but was successfully finalised earlier on Wednesday (22/4).
“BNI will continue to commit to providing the best services for the Indonesian people,” Munadi concluded.
Previously, BNI President Director Putrama Wahju Setyawan assured that the funds of CU Paroki Aek Nabara customers, allegedly embezzled by rogue bank employees, would be refunded on Wednesday (22/4).
Putrama conveyed this after a meeting with Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (21/4), which was also attended by CU Paroki Aek Nabara Treasurer Sister Natalia Situmorang.
“We have found a solution to immediately settle it together with the Credit Union Paroki Aek Nabara party, so at the earliest tomorrow, 22 April 2026, we can carry out the refund of the Credit Union Paroki Aek Nabara funds,” Putrama said.
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has urged BNI to promptly resolve the case.
The authority stated that it has summoned BNI’s directors and management for explanations and emphasised that resolution steps be carried out quickly, comprehensively, transparently, and responsibly.
OJK then requested the bank to conduct a thorough internal investigation, including in-depth examination of compliance aspects, internal controls, and governance.
