Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI, is committed to strengthening the capacity and market for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) operating within the batik ecosystem.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo stated in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday that batik holds not only cultural value but also serves as a vital economic activity involving numerous artisans and MSME players.

“Therefore, the preservation of batik must go hand in hand with strengthening business capacity, expanding markets, and ensuring the sustainability of its practitioners,” said Okki.

He explained that this commitment is realised through various forms of support, ranging from participation in cultural activities to the empowerment of business actors. BNI is striving to create wider opportunities so that Indonesian batik and craft products become more widely recognised and have the chance to flourish.

One such form of support was demonstrated through BNI’s participation in Puspa Nuswantara 2026 in Jakarta last July. During the event, BNI featured its mentored MSMEs to expand the exposure of batik and craft products from various regions.

BNI also supports increasing artisan capacity through training and mentoring, including product development and the implementation of more sustainable business practices. These efforts are directed towards enabling business actors to continue innovating and strengthening their competitiveness.

He added that BNI, as a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) within the Danantara Indonesia ecosystem, continues to support the strengthening of productive sectors, including culture-based creative industries growing in various regions. This support is part of an effort to enhance MSME capacity while simultaneously driving Indonesian cultural products to achieve better competitiveness.
