BNI CEO Assures Return of Paroki Aek Nabara Customer Funds Tomorrow

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The President Director of PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, Putrama Wahju Setyawan, has assured that funds belonging to customers of Credit Union (CU) Paroki Aek Nabara, allegedly embezzled by a rogue bank employee, will be returned on Wednesday (22/4). Putrama conveyed this after a meeting with Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, which was also attended by the Treasurer of CU Paroki Aek Nabara, Sister Natalia Situmorang. “We have reached a solution that we will immediately finalise with the Credit Union Paroki Aek Nabara, so at the earliest tomorrow, 22 April 2026, we can proceed with the return of the Credit Union Paroki Aek Nabara’s funds,” he said. He also assured that BNI would return the full amount of the allegedly embezzled funds, approximately Rp28 billion. “Full, in accordance with what has been stated by the CU Paroki Aek Nabara,” Putrama said. According to him, before returning the funds, BNI would first complete the legal documents. “I think today we will formalise it in an agreement, a contract, as a legal basis for all of us in implementing tomorrow’s decision,” he explained. On the other hand, Putrama expressed thanks for President Prabowo Subianto’s attention to this case. Sister Natalia also expressed gratitude to the President, government officials, BNI, and the House of Representatives for the attention given, allowing the case affecting the Paroki Aek Nabara congregation to be resolved. She stated that the assurance of fund return by BNI after the meeting with parliamentary leaders is good news, as the congregation will rejoice in regaining their rights. “We hope this entire process runs smoothly. Once again, may all this be a source of blessing for us all,” said Sister Natalia. Previously, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) urged BNI to promptly resolve the case experienced by customers at the BNI Aek Nabara Sub-Branch Office, North Sumatra. OJK stated that the loss value in the case amounted to around Rp28 billion. According to OJK, BNI has realised a fund return to customers of Rp7 billion. The resolution is requested to be carried out quickly and transparently. In this case, the North Sumatra Regional Police have arrested the former Head of Cash at BNI Aek Nabara Unit, Rantauprapat, initials AHF. The suspect was apprehended after returning from an overseas trip. “Together with immigration officers at Kualanamu International Airport, we secured AHF upon his arrival in Indonesia this morning,” said the Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the North Sumatra Police, Commissioner Rahmat Budi Handoko, in Medan on Monday (30/3). The embezzlement case involving the congregation’s funds was reported to the North Sumatra Police on 26 February 2026. The report was filed by the Head of the BNI Rantauprapat Branch, Muhammad Camel, after suspicions of irregularities in customer fund transactions were found.
