BMW reports positive Q1 2004 sales

JAKARTA: PT BMW Indonesia reported increased sales in the first quarter, claiming a 44 percent market share in the Indonesian luxury car market.

The German car maker booked total sales of 462 vehicles, with 185 units sold in March compared with 148 units in February. The dynamic, sporty BMW 3-Series contributed to 43 percent of total sales.

Other models available include the BMW 7-Series, 5-Series, Z4 roadster and BMW X5 sports activity vehicle (SAV). The BMW 5- Series contributed 42 percent while the high-end BMW 7-Series had a share of 7 percent.

"With sales results for the first quarter of 2004 such as these, we are confident that we shall continue in our trend of increasing sales in 2004 to maintain our leading position in the premium segment in Indonesia," PT BMW Indonesia president Josef Honsel said in a media statement. -- JP
