BMW Electric Car Allegedly Involved in Hit-and-Run, Mobbed in West Jakarta
A BMW electric car with registration plate B-77-NRI was mobbed by residents on Jalan Meruya Selatan, Kebon Jeruk District, West Jakarta. The incident was recorded and went viral on social media. In the circulating video, the black car is seen moving in a damaged state, with an orange road barrier caught in its front section. Kanit Gakkum of the West Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit, AKP Joko Siswanto, said the incident occurred on Monday morning at 08.15 WIB. Before the accident, the electric BMW sedan was travelling on Jalan Meruya Selatan from north to south. At the location, it struck a Honda Supra motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, causing the rider to suffer injuries. The motorcyclist sustained abrasions on the hands and legs and was treated at Kembangan Regional General Hospital. The car was mobbed by the crowd because the driver allegedly attempted to flee. Acting Head of the West Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit, Kompol Reza Hafiz Gumilang, explained that the BMW was travelling from north to south when it hit the motorcycle coming from the south. The motorcyclist fell and suffered injuries to the hands and legs before receiving hospital treatment. The car was chased by the crowd but was eventually secured by officers. Police then detained the driver for questioning.
