BMW Damaged by Mob After Hitting Motorcycle in West Jakarta Ends Peacefully
Police mediated a case involving a BMW electric car that was damaged by a mob after hitting a motorcyclist on Jalan Meruya Selatan, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. The case was resolved amicably through a family settlement. The incident, which occurred on Monday (22/6) at 08.15 WIB, went viral on social media. In circulating videos, the black car was seen driving in a damaged state. The car struck a Honda Supra motorcycle, leaving its rider injured. “The motorcycle rider suffered abrasions on his hands and legs and received treatment at Kembangan Regional General Hospital,” said AKP Joko Siswanto, Head of the Traffic Accident Unit at the West Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit. After hitting the motorcycle, the BMW was chased by residents before being vandalised by the mob. “The car was chased by a mob but was secured by officers,” said Kompol Reza Hafiz Gumilang, Acting Head of Traffic at the West Jakarta Metro Police. Police later detained the car driver following the accident and took his statement. Police then conducted mediation between the BMW driver and the family of the online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver who was hit. “The matter has been resolved amicably,” said AKP Joko Siswanto on Tuesday (23/6). “In essence, both parties—the BMW side and the ojol family represented by his child—we immediately assisted in mediation and they agreed to settle it amicably. They agreed to resolve it as a family, so it is finished. We prioritise restorative justice, meaning fulfilling a person’s sense of justice,” he added.
