BMW China recalls over 147,000 imported vehicles
Jakarta (ANTARA) – BMW China has initiated a recall of 147,830 imported vehicles assessed to carry a fire risk caused by damage to the starter motor, according to a report by IThome cited in CarNewsChina coverage on Thursday.
This action, according to CarNewsChina, forms part of a global recall of 575,000 vehicle units.
The recall, registered under code S2026M0027V, addresses abnormal wear on the starter motor assembly of vehicles produced between July 2020 and December 2022.
Data from the State Administration for Market Regulation indicates that repetitive ignition cycles cause internal degradation that could potentially result in high-resistance short circuits.
Technical assessment confirms that excessive localised heat within the starter motor can cause engine compartment fires under extreme conditions.
BMW vehicle imports registered in China are currently concentrated on the 2020–2022 production period, encompassing the Series 7, X4, X5, and X6 model lines.
The 147,830 affected BMW vehicles subject to recall represent approximately 30 percent of BMW’s cumulative import volume in China during that period.
Models affected by the recall will receive reinforced starter units capable of handling peak electrical loads, meeting the requirements for high-voltage ICE systems that frequently experience electrical surges equivalent to a 1,500 kW electrical grid during cold starts.
