BMKG writes to Aceh Governor to prepare for hydrometeorological disasters
Banda Aceh - The Class I Sultan Iskandar Muda Meteorological Station of the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) in Banda Aceh has written to the Governor of Aceh to prepare for hydrometeorological disasters, as moderate to heavy rain is expected in 23 districts and cities.
“This situation could cause disasters such as strong winds, flooding, landslides, and others,” said BMKG Aceh Forecaster Dedi Ardana in Banda Aceh on Friday.
BMKG predicts moderate to heavy rain in Aceh during two periods, from 11-15 April 2026 and 16-20 April 2026. Even 10 areas will be affected during both periods.
In the BMKG letter numbered e.B/ME.02.04/042/KBTJ/IV/2026 addressed to the Governor of Aceh on Friday (10/4), it was conveyed that currently, an atmospheric disturbance is being monitored, namely a cyclonic pattern forming a wind shear line and convergence in the Aceh region.
Dedi stated that based on monitoring of the 3000 feet layer wind forecast, there is potential for wind shear lines and convergence in the Aceh province.
“This condition,” he said, “can increase the potential for rain cloud development along the shear line areas, and the convergence can cause moderate to heavy rain in Aceh.”
Therefore, they are conveying this information to prepare for hydrometeorological disasters in the form of potential moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning/thunder and strong winds.
“The public should remain alert and always be careful when carrying out activities outdoors, especially when driving in bad weather,” Dedi said.
The areas at risk of heavy rain from 11-15 April 2026 are 23 districts and cities across Aceh. Meanwhile, those that will continue to be affected until the second period of 16-20 April 2026 number 10 areas.
The 10 areas predicted to experience heavy rain in both periods are West Aceh Regency, Southwest Aceh Regency, South Aceh Regency, Central Aceh Regency, Southeast Aceh Regency, Bener Meriah Regency, Gayo Lues Regency, Nagan Raya Regency, Pidie Regency, and Subulussalam City.
