Throughout the month of June, there were five earthquake occurrences that were felt.

Bandung (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Class 1 Geophysics Station Bandung recorded a total of 72 earthquake incidents in West Java and its surrounding areas during the period of June 2026.

“Of the 72 incidents, the largest earthquake tremor recorded was 3.9 magnitude and the smallest was 1 magnitude,” said the Head of the BMKG Bandung Geophysics Station, Edi Wibowo, in Bandung on Tuesday.

Based on depth, he continued, 60 incidents occurred at depths of less than 60 kilometres, while 12 incidents occurred between 60 and 300 kilometres.

He noted that based on the location of the hypocentre, 38 earthquakes were centred at sea, while 34 other earthquake incidents were centred on land.

Furthermore, Edi stated that one of the earthquakes felt during this period had a magnitude of 3.5 and was centred in Cianjur Regency, West Java, on Saturday (6/6), and was felt from Cianjur Regency to Sukabumi.

BMKG Bandung has provided recommendations for the public to avoid buildings that are cracked or damaged as a result of earthquakes.

He stated that if an earthquake occurs, the public should remain calm, alert, and follow the directions of the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) as well as information from the BMKG.

“We urge that if an earthquake occurs, the public is requested to remain calm, vigilant, and not to be provoked by irresponsible rumours,” said Edi Wibowo.
