BMKG Weather Forecast for Wednesday, 8 July 2026: Partly Cloudy Across Indonesia

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has released an early weather warning for Wednesday, 8 July 2026. Based on the latest atmospheric dynamics analysis, Tropical Cyclone Buffi, currently observed in the Philippine Sea, is the main driver behind the formation of extreme wind patterns affecting several regions of Indonesia. The public is urged to increase preparedness, particularly residents in areas under an alert status for potential heavy to very heavy rainfall, namely North Sulawesi. According to BMKG monitoring, Tropical Cyclone Buffi is predicted to be located in the Philippine Sea north of West Papua, with a central pressure reaching 920 hPa and maximum wind speeds of up to 105 knots. Although it is moving westward away from Indonesian territory, this massive system is inducing areas of wind convergence and deceleration in the northern Philippine Sea, West Papua, the Sulu Sea, and the Sulawesi Sea. Additionally, Cyclone Buffi is triggering a low-level jet phenomenon along the Pacific Ocean north of North Maluku to the north of Papua. Simultaneously, two secondary cyclonic circulations are predicted to form in the waters west of West Sumatra and in the Makassar Strait. The presence of these circulations is creating additional convergence and confluence zones extending across the waters west of West Sumatra, West Sumatra, the waters west of Bengkulu, and the Makassar Strait. The combination of tropical cyclone activity, cyclonic circulations, and the low-level jet directly contributes to the increased potential for rain cloud formation and strong winds along the affected areas.
