BMKG: Watch Out for Extreme Weather in West Java 4-10 March 2026! Potential Heavy Rain and Strong Winds

Bandung – The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) forecasts potential moderate to very heavy rain, potentially accompanied by lightning and strong winds, across West Java over the coming week from 4 to 10 March 2026. Teguh Rahayu, head of the Bandung Meteorological Station, explained that this extreme weather is influenced by atmospheric dynamics, including Low Frequency (LF) waves that trigger widespread convective cloud formation. ‘Over the coming week, the weather is generally likely to be rainy with moderate to heavy intensity, possibly with thunder and gusty winds during the afternoon, evening and night hours,’ Teguh said in Bandung on Wednesday (4 March 2026). BMKG analysis shows atmospheric instability ranging from light to strong; this indicates a high risk of convective cloud growth, the main trigger of extreme weather in West Java. Based on global and local weather models, the forecast indicates episodes of very heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds will occur in short, but widespread, durations at multiple points across West Java. Hydrometeorological hazard warning: BMKG has issued recommendations to communities and local governments to be vigilant for potential events during the seasonal transition period; simple steps like keeping drainage channels clear and trimming dense tree branches are advised. ‘We urge the public to stay vigilant and to keep updated with official BMKG weather information. Understand local hazard potentials and take risk reduction steps promptly,’ Teguh concluded. BMKG is monitoring three tropical cyclone seeds (90S, 93S, 92P) around the region that are driving extreme weather in Indonesia. Be on alert for heavy rain, strong winds, and waves up to 4 metres. BMKG issued early warnings for Central Java weather on 3 March 2026. The agency also notes that parts of Indonesia might enter the dry season earlier, with a drier 2026 season predicted than 2025.
