The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Region III Denpasar has urged the public to be vigilant regarding the potential for tidal flooding (rob) or coastal flooding in several coastal areas of Bali, triggered by the Super New Moon phenomenon predicted to occur between 12 and 20 June.

“The potential for coastal flooding will occur at different times and hours in each region,” said the Head of BMKG Region III, Cahyo Nugroho, in Denpasar on Thursday.

He explained that tidal flooding is triggered not only by the new moon but also by the perigee phase—the point where the moon is closest to the Earth—on 15 June 2026, which has the potential to increase maximum sea levels.

Based on monitoring of water level data and tidal predictions, tidal flooding is likely to occur in the southern coast of Jembrana Regency, the southern coast of Tabanan Regency, the coast of Badung Regency, the coast of Denpasar City, the coast of Gianyar Regency, and the southern coast of Klungkung Regency.

Regarding the impact, Cahyo noted that the flooding could affect loading and unloading activities at ports, coastal residential areas, as well as salt farming and inland fishery activities.

The agency advises the public to monitor the latest weather information from BMKG through social media accounts @infobmkg, @bmkgbali, and the Info BMKG application, as well as via the websites bbmkg3.bmkg.go.id or maritim.bmkg.go.id.
