BMKG Warns of Waves Up to 6 Metres in Southern Bali Waters

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned of high waves reaching up to six metres in the southern waters of Bali from 5 to 8 August 2026.

According to Didik Tri Utami, a forecaster at the BBMKG Region III Denpasar, the extreme sea conditions are currently being triggered by an active Australian monsoon. This weather pattern is causing strong winds to blow consistently from the east to the south, with speeds forecast to reach up to 25 knots, or approximately 46 kilometres per hour.

She explained that the intense wind friction over the open waters of the Indian Ocean is transferring energy directly to the sea surface, resulting in the high waves. In addition to the southern waters of Bali, waves of four to six metres are also forecast for the southern part of the Lombok Strait during the same period.

Other areas are also expected to experience significant wave heights. The Badung Strait and the northern part of the Lombok Strait are forecast to see waves between 1.25 and 2.5 metres. The agency has advised barge operators to be cautious when wind speeds reach 16 knots and wave heights hit 1.5 metres, while fishermen on small boats should be wary of wind speeds exceeding 15 knots and waves over 1.25 metres. The BMKG has urged the public to monitor the latest weather information through its official social media channels and mobile application.
