BMKG warns of potential rain and thunderstorms in major cities today

BMKG forecast that most major cities in Indonesia are likely to experience rain of varying intensities on Monday, 25 May 2026. “For western Indonesia, there is a potential for rain accompanied by thunderstorms in Tanjungpinang, Palembang, and Pontianak,” said BMKG forecaster M Rizky during a weather forecast broadcast in Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Monday. In addition to the extreme weather potential, BMKG also noted moderate rainfall is expected to affect Serang and Jakarta. He added that light rain is forecast to dominate and evenly fall across several regions in western and central Indonesia. Meanwhile, thick cloud cover is likely in Pekanbaru, Pangkalpinang, and Banjarmasin. Rizky detailed potential smoke or fog covering Padang, and haze specifically in Jambi. For eastern Indonesia, BMKG urged residents to prepare for predominantly light rain across several areas. “In eastern Indonesia, light rain is possible in Denpasar, Mataram, most of Sulawesi, Ternate, Ambon, and most of Papua, with thick cloud cover likely in Kupang,” he said.
