BMKG warns of high wave risks in several Southeast Sulawesi waters

The Kendari Maritime Meteorology Station of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned of the risk of high waves in several maritime areas of Southeast Sulawesi Province from 10 to 13 June 2026.

Zumiana, a forecaster at the Kendari Maritime Meteorology Station, stated on Wednesday that synoptic conditions show wind patterns generally blowing from the east to the south, with speeds ranging between 2 to 20 knots.

Based on early warning data, high wave potential in these waters is expected to occur between 08:00 WITA on 10 June 2026 and 08:00 WITA on 11 June 2026.

“High waves are likely to occur in the Eastern Banda Sea, Wakatobi,” she said.

Furthermore, from 08:00 WITA on 11 June 2026 to 08:00 WITA on 12 June 2026, the potential for high waves will expand to several areas, including the Eastern Banda Sea in Wawoni, the western and eastern waters of Wakatobi, and the Eastern Banda Sea in Wakatobi.

Meanwhile, during the period from 08:00 WITA on 12 June 2026 to 08:00 WITA on 13 June 2026, the high wave warning will once again focus on the Eastern Banda Sea, Wakatobi area.

BMKG is urging the public, particularly users of maritime transport services and fishermen, to increase vigilance regarding weather conditions and sea waves during this period.
