BMKG Warns of Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Across Major Indonesian Cities on Thursday

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for potential light, moderate, and heavy rain, which may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds, in various major cities across Indonesia on Thursday. Quoted from the official BMKG website in Jakarta, Forecaster Miftah Ali explained that convergence zones generally extend across the North Natuna Sea, South China Sea, Sulu Sea, western to eastern Philippine Sea, the west coast of West Sumatra, to the waters west of West Sumatra, and from the northern waters of Southwest Papua to the northern Halmahera Sea. According to him, these conditions can increase the potential for rain cloud growth along the areas passed by the convergence or confluence. Meanwhile, several other major cities are expected to experience light to moderate rain, including Banda Aceh, Pekanbaru (Riau), Tanjung Pinang (Riau Islands), Padang (West Sumatra), Jambi, Pangkal Pinang (Bangka Belitung Islands), Serang (Banten), Bandung (West Java), Samarinda (East Kalimantan), Ternate (North Maluku), Sorong (Southwest Papua), Manokwari (West Papua), Nabire (Central Papua), and Jayawijaya (Highland Papua). Major cities forecast to only experience cloudy conditions today are Jakarta, Semarang (Central Java), Surabaya (East Java), Yogyakarta, Pontianak (West Kalimantan), Palangka Raya (Central Kalimantan), Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan), Denpasar (Bali), Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara), Makassar (South Sulawesi), Kendari (Southeast Sulawesi), Palu (Central Sulawesi), Gorontalo, Manado (North Sulawesi), Ambon (Maluku), Jayapura (Papua), and Merauke (South Papua).
