BMKG Warns of Heavy Rain and Strong Winds in North Sumatra

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has urged the public to be aware of the potential for rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning in parts of North Sumatra on Thursday (9/7). “Be aware of the potential for moderate intensity rain that may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the mountains, western slopes, and west coast of North Sumatra, which could cause hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides on Thursday,” said BBMKG Region I Forecaster Nensy Nindy in Medan on Wednesday. She explained that generally on Thursday morning, light rain is likely in Gunungsitoli, Langkat, Mandailing Natal, Nias Islands, and South Tapanuli. In the evening, light rain is likely in Asahan, Humbang Hasundutan, Gunungsitoli, Padangsidimpuan, Sibolga, Labuhanbatu, South Labuhanbatu, North Labuhanbatu, Langkat, Mandailing Natal, Nias Islands, Padang Lawas, North Padang Lawas, Simalungun, South Tapanuli, Central Tapanuli, North Tapanuli, and Toba. In the early hours, light rain is likely in Sibolga, Langkat, Central Tapanuli, and Mandailing Natal.
