BMKG Warns NTT to Brace for Three Tropical Cyclone Disturbances and Extreme Weather

BMKG has warned residents in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) to beware extreme weather as three tropical cyclone disturbances form near Indonesia and Australia. The head of the NTT Meteorological Station, Sti Nenotek, said these disturbances can trigger massive convective cloud development, potentially delivering rainfall of moderate to very heavy intensity and increasing wind speeds across the NTT region. Based on BMKG data on Thursday 5 March, the three disturbances being closely monitored are 90S, 93S and 92P. The situation is exacerbated by regional atmospheric dynamics such as a strengthening Asian monsoon, a weak La Niña, and the activity of Kelvin Waves and Rossby waves in the NTT area. BMKG has declared SIAGA for the potential of very heavy to extreme rainfall across NTT, with the public urged to heighten readiness for hydrometeorological disasters such as flash floods, landslides and uprooted trees due to strong winds forecast to affect all districts and cities in NTT on 5–6 March 2026.
