The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has urged residents in the coastal areas of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) to increase their vigilance against potential tidal flooding from 26 June to 4 July 2026. The head of the Zainuddin Abdul Madjid Meteorological Station, Satria Topan Primadi, stated that the high tides would occur from morning until late afternoon. The potential for tidal flooding is triggered by the maximum sea tide phenomenon occurring simultaneously with the Strawberry Moon full moon phase. During a full moon or new moon, the gravitational forces of the moon and the sun exert a stronger pull, causing sea levels to rise to their highest points in low-elevation areas. BMKG estimates the maximum tide height in Lembar, West Lombok Regency, will reach 2 metres, with the tide occurring between 07.00 and 13.00 Central Indonesian Time (WITA). Meanwhile, the maximum tide height in Sape, Bima Regency, is forecast at 1.9 metres, with the tide occurring between 07.00 and 15.00 WITA. Areas on Lombok Island potentially affected by tidal flooding include Lembar, Ampenan, Pemenang, Jerowaru, and Labuan Lombok. On Sumbawa Island, the flooding is expected to impact Labuan Badas, Asakota, Hu’u, and Sape. He urged communities living in coastal areas, along riverbanks, and in low-lying regions to remain alert to the possibility of seawater inundation. He also advised fishermen and coastal business operators to adjust their activities according to the tidal conditions. The moon will enter its micro Strawberry Moon full phase on 30 June 2026 at 07.57 WITA. This particular full moon will appear approximately 7 per cent smaller than a typical full moon because the moon will be at its farthest point from Earth in its elliptical orbit, at a distance of 406,366 kilometres.
