BMKG Vows to Support Indonesia Emas 2045 Vision Despite Budget Constraints
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has assured that its operational policies remain fully aligned with the national development agenda towards the Indonesia Emas 2045 vision, even amid fiscal limitations. BMKG Secretary Principal Guswanto stated during a hearing with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jakarta on Wednesday that the agency’s functional commitment would not waver in safeguarding the sovereignty and resilience of the nation’s strategic commodities in the future. “Despite facing budget constraints, our operational policies remain steadfast in supporting national priorities, particularly food sovereignty, energy and water independence, and disaster resilience,” he said. Guswanto explained that functional meteorological, climatological, and geophysical interventions are absolutely necessary, given that global weather and climate variables are crucial factors underpinning the stability of domestic food production and national water resource management. To minimise potential economic losses from disasters, the agency is also continuing to modernise its multi-hazard early warning system equipment, including the InaTEWS for tsunami mitigation. Based on the indicative budget ceiling for the 2027 Government Work Plan, set through a joint letter from the Minister of Finance and the Head of Bappenas dated 7 May 2026, BMKG is scheduled to receive a spending allocation of Rp2.16 trillion. Guswanto added that this indicative budget, sourced from Rupiah Murni, SBSN, and PNBP, results in a budget shortfall of Rp2.48 trillion against the agency’s total ideal projected requirement of Rp4.64 trillion.
