BMKG urges North Sumatra residents to remain vigilant for potential rainfall

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has urged residents in North Sumatra to remain vigilant for the potential of light intensity rain that is still likely to occur in the coming days.

BBMKG Region I forecaster Martha Manurung in Medan stated on Thursday that although it generally does not have a significant impact, the light intensity rain can cause slippery roads, reduced visibility, and standing water in some locations.

The rain is occurring due to the continued presence of atmospheric wave activity that is forecast to be active, a wind shearline in the Indian Ocean west of Sumatra, and warm sea surface temperatures that support the formation of rain clouds.

“Therefore, these conditions must still be watched out for. Always monitor the latest weather information from BMKG and adjust outdoor activities to the local weather conditions,” she said.

Regarding the weather in North Sumatra for Friday (17/7) morning, she mentioned the potential for light rain, and similarly from noon to late afternoon there is potential for light intensity rain in most parts of North Sumatra.

Likewise, at night, there is also the potential for evenly distributed light rain across almost the entire North Sumatra region, although moderate intensity rain may occur in the Batubara area.
